Why are YouTube comments so bad

Why are youtube comments so toxically dumb and hateful?

Not that you need an example, but recently I saw the youtube comments for a video in which Derek Jeter had a walk-off hit in his final at-bat at Yankee Stadium.

About 90% of the comments included one of the following:

"Fake!"
"Staged!"
"Gay."
"Baseball is stupid."
"I can't believe stupid Americans like this stupid shit."

---

Normally if I see a video that has anything even remotely to do with a Jewish person, I'll see youtube comments about how Jews are greedy, selfish, dirty scum.

Any video that remotely relates to the United States and you'll see an army of "Americans are so stupid" posts.

---

So seriously, why are Internet comments such a cesspool of human waste?

Not sure. If I don't like a video on YouTube I just close it. No point in wasting energy commenting on it. People are dumb.

To be fair, baseball is stupid.
It can be boring as hell. That's not the point. Why comment on a video about baseball if you have no interest in it?

People just get off on belittling others and spreading hatred.

Well, to answer your original question, it's because the anonymity of the internet - specifically semi-unmoderated comment sections - allow people to be how they actually are. At the core of human beings, we're really just vicious animals. We're not nice or kind, we're mean and selfish. We try on occasion to be better, but we're really not.

I have no desire to be vicious for no good reason, even if I know I can get away with it. And I will never understand the desire to be vicious just because you can be. I actually enjoy treating others respectfully, even in anonymous situations.

But yes, I agree, sadly that's just how many people are.
Well first off, the users aren't just from the US, they are from all over the world, hence the american hate. Second of all, not every country has state of the art education, which leads to more common stupidity. Then you have trolls like myself that make ruthless comments to see other users reactions.
