The ‘perfect’ body may be a myth, but that doesn’t stop us from desperately seeking it, and pinning our hopes of happiness on attaining it.

In this week’s LIFE Magazine with the Sunday Independent, Emily Hourican looks at the misery and self-doubt the beauty myth can cause, and talks to a selection of men and women, from a wide range of age groups, prepared to tell the truth about what they see when they confront themselves. We talk to Rosanna Davison, George Hook, Sonya Lennon, among more.

To get the conversation started, Sunday Independent Reporter Niamh Horan questions what she sees when she looks in the mirror.

“What do I see when I look in the mirror?” Niamh asks herself. “That’s a hard question isn’t it. It’s all in the mind really. Perception.”

While some days, Niamh is happy with her reflection, some day she is greeted by an image that she is less than pleased with.

But ultimately, what does this image really reflect? We are always told that beauty is only skin deep - so what are the more important issues at hand when we have to look ourselves in the eye.

What do you see in the mirror? Join the conversation on Twitter using the hashtag #WhatISee and let us know what you see – Be as honest as you can, share your selfies,  get involved.
